Former Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton will announce his bid for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination on Thursday, Politico reported.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Bolton served as the US Ambassador to the United Nations under the former President George W. Bush administration, but had previously also served in the Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush administrations.

“Bolton has been active on the Republican pre-presidential campaign circuit — speaking at the Iowa Freedom Summit in January, the Conservative Political Action Conference in February, and last month’s First in the Nation Summit in New Hampshire — but has attracted little attention in a crowded primary field,” Politico noted on Wednesday.

Bolton is a critic of US President Barack Obama’s foreign policy, coming out strongly against a nuclear deal with Iran, the conduct of the war against the Islamic State and is a steadfast supporter of Israel.

Bolton accuses Obama of appeasing Russia and argues the United States should treat Russia as an adversary. He is an advocate of applying more sanctions on Russia and arming Ukraine with lethal weapons.
