The independent investigation by attorney David Hoffman will determine whether the American Psychological Association (APA) was actually involved in the US Central Intelligence Agency’s (CIA) torture program, APA Public Communications Deputy Executive Director Kim Mills told Sputnik.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The report concluded that the APA secretly cooperated with the administration of former US President George W. Bush and aided CIA’s torture programs against suspected and actual terrorists as well as their aides and supporters.

Allegations against the APA came into light in December 2014, when the US Senate Intelligence Committee released a report documenting CIA “enhanced interrogation techniques” against detainees suspected of terrorism.

The Senate Intelligence Committee disclosed that a company established by two psychologists was awarded millions of dollars by CIA for developing and implementing the Agency’s torture practices.

In November 2014, the APA Board of Directors appointed Chicago lawyer David Hoffman to start a review into allegations of collusion with CIA.

“Hoffman’s review will determine the facts,” Mills said on Thursday.

Mills comment came amid allegations brought up in the April 2015 report, written by a group of APA dissident health professionals and human rights activists.

Mills said once Hoffman’s review is completed APA Board reviews it, the report will be made public.

The APA declined to comment further on the allegations of torture involvement, saying its current main priority is to ensure the complete independence of Hoffman’s work.
