“The United States does not censor media,” Nuland stated in response to a question by Sputnik whether the US government would ever consider censoring Russian media within the United States.

Last week, Nuland testified before the US House Foreign Affairs Committee and referred to Russian media as a “pervasive propaganda campaign.”

She noted in her testimony that such propaganda was “poisoning minds across Russia, on Russia’s periphery and across Europe.”

Nuland said that the US State Department had increased funding for Russian-language broadcasting over 100 percent from spending levels during the 2014 Maidan protests to $23.2 million.

The US State Department has also requested an additional provision of more than $20 million in assistance to promote US-supported broadcasts.
