WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The United States has increased the reward for information leading to the return of Robert Levinson, a US citizen and a retired Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) special agent, who went missing in 2007 during an alleged business trip to Kish Island in Iran, US Department of State Secretary John Kerry said in a statement on Monday.
Kerry urged the Iranian government to cooperate with the United States in its investigation into Levinson’s disappearance so that the retired FBI agent can return home.
“We remain committed to the safe return of Mr. Levinson to his family and appreciate the support and assistance from our international partners,” Kerry added.
On March 8, 2007, Levinson traveled to Kish Island, Iran where he went missing the next day.
Levinson, who will soon turn 67, has been missing for 2,900 days.
