Ferguson Fires Cop, Two Others Put On Leave Over Racist Emails
02:21 GMT 05.03.2015 (Updated: 02:23 GMT 05.03.2015) Ferguson’s mayor announced Wednesday that the city has fired a police officer and two others were on administrative leave after the Department of Justice’s report exposed racist emails that circulated in the troubled department.
DOJ investigators found several racially charged emails regarding African-Americans sent by three unnamed individuals.
"This type of behavior will not be tolerated in the Ferguson Police Department or in any department in the city of Ferguson," Mayor James Knowles said about the emails during a press conference responding to the DOJ report.
Knowles’ announcement came after US Attorney General Eric Holder called his department’s report, which concluded that the Ferguson PD had a pattern of unjustified arrests and excessive use of force and had violated constitutional provisions, “searing.”
