Over 3,900 Flights Cancelled in US Amid Snowstorm

Harsh weather conditions cause over 3,900 flights cancellations in the United States.

MOSCOW, February 2 (Sputnik) – Over 3,900 flights have been cancelled in the United States amid harsh weather conditions caused by winter storm Linus.

On Sunday, the total number of flight cancellations within, into or out of the United States stood at 2,458, according to the FlightAware flight tracking service. Early on Monday FlightAware data showed that 1,514 domestic and international flights were cancelled on that day in the United States.

Weather.com reported Sunday that a winter storm warning will be in place in several US states, including Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Northern Connecticut until early Tuesday. The weather service said that winter storm Linus could leave parts of western Massachusetts and Connecticut with 16 inches (40 cm) of snow.

According to weather.com, Linus will continue to spread snow across the US Midwest until Monday. Blizzard warnings have been issued in parts of Illinois, including Chicago, and Wisconsin. Chicago has seen about 9 inches (23 cm) of snow as of Sunday evening.

Last week, winter storm Juno led to public transport and flight disruptions in the United States. States of emergency were declared in seven states amid the snowstorm.
