Thousands of flights were cancelled for Monday and Tuesday in the US and state of emergency has been declared in seven states because of heavy snowstorm.

MOSCOW, January 28 (Sputnik) – Snowstorm Juno has led to public transport and flight disruptions in the United States, where state of emergency have been declared in seven states, ABC News reports.

"Thousands of flights were cancelled for Monday and Tuesday, and authorities ordered drivers off the streets in New York and Boston. Public transport closed early, and until further notice," ABC News reported Tuesday, adding that "states of emergency were declared in seven states".

According to weather.com, Juno caused heavy coastal flooding in Long Island and New England on Tuesday, but is expected to start winding down gradually on Wednesday.

New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Tuesday that the snowstorm was weaker than predicted.

Snow amounts have ranged between 9.8 inches (about 25 cm) in the New York City Central Park and more than 28 inches (71 cm) on Long Island, according to weather.com. Up to 36 inches (91 cm) of snow have been measured in Massachusetts.
