MOSCOW, January 26 (Sputnik) - A fast-moving snowstorm is threatening to hit New York City on Monday, raising safety concerns among the city authorities and prompting them to inform New York residents about necessary precaution measures, according to the New York Times.
“Change your plans, change your behavior, change your approach starting right now,” Mayor de Blasio said in a statement, cited by the newspaper. “This could be a storm the likes of which we have never seen before,” he added.

According to the latest forecasts, the winter storm will start on Monday afternoon and dump as much as three feet (one meter) of snow on New York City. Though public schools are not expected to be closed on Monday, excursions and all after-school activities have been called off.
“New Yorkers should not underestimate this storm,” de Blasio warned, adding that the storm could be one of the heaviest winter storms in the city’s history.

On Monday, New Yorkers have been asked to stay home or leave work as early as possible. On Tuesday, school classes are expected to be cancelled.
