A snowstorm is threatening to paralyze life in the northeast United States, as meteorologists project over two feet of snow.

MOSCOW, January 25 (Sputnik) —The Northeast United States faces a possibly historic blizzard starting Sunday, with record snowfalls in New England and the New York City area, according to AccuWeather.

Over a foot of snow is forecast to fall in an area spanning from Philadelphia to Maine, AP reports, as the storm is expected to lead to flight cancellations, travel delays and potential power outages.

The snowstorm follows a winter storm on January 19 in which five people were killed in accidents in the northeastern US as ice coated roads and bridges, resulting in car crashes and slowed traffic, CNN reported.

Heavy rain and snow coated traffic areas and overpasses with ice, leading to a number of car accidents. Two people were reportedly killed in accidents related to the ice-slicked roads in the Philadelphia area, state police reported.

Poor weather conditions occurred in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania over the weekend. The Mayor of Danbury, Connecticut even hashtagged it #Icezilla, with numerous Twitter users posting images and warnings of the dangerous winter storm.
