Police Officer Shot and Killed in Florida Town
MOSCOW, January 6 (Sputnik) — Two policemen have been shot in the Bronx borough of New York by a suspected robber, the local media reported.

Two police officers who came to the site responding to a burglary call were shot at around 22:30 local time on Monday (03:30 GMT, Tuesday) on East 184th Street and Tiebout Avenue in New York, NBC New York reported Monday, citing the police.

One of the officers was reportedly shot in the back, and the other in the arm. Both of them have been taken to St. Barnabas Hospital and are stable, according to NBC New York.

The gunman managed to flee the scene in a car. Investigation of the incident has already been launched, according to the news outlet.

The incident comes after the murder of two police officers on December 20. Wenjian Liu and his partner Rafael Ramos were shot and killed while on duty by Ismaaiyl Brinsley, a 28-year-old African-American with a history of arrests and alleged mental illness.

The murder of the two police officers took place after weeks of protests across the United States over police brutality after killings of unarmed African-Americans Michael Brown and Eric Garner by white law enforcers, and after the grand jury decisions not to indict them.
