Shortly after Katie Amos and her fiancé Lee Johnston arrived in the Big Apple, their baby boy Dax was born, 11 weeks early and weighing 3 pounds, at the Lenox Hill Hospital in New York.
For the next three months, the couple says they may be forced to stay in the hospital with Dax, uninsured and with mounting medical debt. A publicity campaign for funds has been started through a Go Get Funding Page they created: “Dax’s Tale of New York.”
Although they have no family and friends in New York, the couple has already received some much-needed support, catching the attention of celebrities like British model Katie Price.
“My mummy and daddy went on a five day break to New York as a last get away before I came along!” Amos and Johnston wrote on their fundraising page.
“They went to a cake shop (Mummy loves cakes), and were walking through Central Park on a movie tour and I decided they were having such a good time I wanted to see what all the fun was about, and I decided to pop out 11 weeks early!”
So far, the couple has managed to raise $7,566. They continue to seek donations via Facebook and Twitter. Their social media platform has continued to garner popularity through followers supporting their efforts.

Despite the ongoing fundraising challenge, the couple told the Daily Mirror that their son is doing relatively well.
"The good news is Dax is doing really well. It was just amazing to see Katie holding him,” Johnston said. "We just really want to get home but the main thing is Dax is as safe and as well as possible."
