MOSCOW, December 22 (Sputnik) — A Canadian man was shot and wounded by US officers when he attempted to cross a border bridge into the US while brandishing a handgun, AFP reports.
CBP spokesman Kris Grogan said that the object the man was carrying turned out to be a replica handgun, CNN reports. He also added that the Canadian man, who sustained a gunshot wound to the arm, was treated for his injuries and was taken into custody. His identity hasn’t been released yet.
Shortly before the incident at the Ambassador Bridge, the suspect was involved in an altercation with the Windsor police.
According to a news release cited by the news agency, police officers have arrived at a McDonald’s parking lot at about 2:40 a.m. ET following reports about a man with a gun. The suspect refused an order to drop his weapon; he pointed it at officers instead and asked them, “Why haven’t you shot me yet?” He then got into his vehicle and fled, CBC News adds.
