NYPD Officer Suspended After Beating Teenager

A police officer, who was caught punching a teenager was under arrest, has been suspended and the New York Police Department has referred the case to its Internal Affairs Bureau.

MOSCOW, December 20 (Sputnik) – A police officer, who was seen physically assaulting a teenager, is under arrest and has been suspended, Fox News reports.

The incident was filmed by a bystander, Sarah Doneghy. The video shows three law enforcement officers trying to handcuff a teenager. A plainclothes officer rushes to them, punching the boy at least twice in the back.

"Hey, stop it! Get off of him," Doneghy can be heard yelling.

People, witnessing the incident, said the boy was 12 years of age. However, the New York Police Department stated the teenager is 16 years old. The boy was arrested along with two others for assaulting a person with a cane. The police have not released his name.

"The incident is under review and the allegations have been referred to our Internal Affairs Bureau," the NYPD said in a statement, as quoted by Fox News. "Additionally, this individual was arrested with two others for assaulting another identified person with a cane."

The incident took place on East Broadway near Clinton St. on Monday, New York Daily News reported. The news outlet identified the plainclothes police officer as John McDevitt, an anti-crime cop from the 7th Precinct.
