UNITED NATIONS, November 25 (Sputnik) — UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Tuesday urged those, protesting against the grand jury's decision in Michael Brown's case to refrain from violence.
“[UN Secretary-General] appeals to all those in Ferguson and throughout the US who felt disappointment at the grand jury's decision to make their voices heard peacefully and to refrain from any violence,” Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, said at a press briefing.
According to Dujjaric, Ban Ki-Moon also called on the authorities of the US State of Missouri and the US federal authorities to provide an opportunity for the protesters to express their opinions freely, provided they are doing so in a peaceful manner.
Major protests erupted in the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson Monday over the grand jury’s decision not to indict Darren Wilson, a white police officer who fatally shot Michael Brown, an unarmed African-American teenager, in Ferguson, on August 9. In St. Louis County at least 13 people have been injured in riots, which later spread across the United States and engulfed 38 states, according to the latest updates.
