Former Department of Justice official John Malcolm said that a number of US Congressmen are considering filing a new lawsuit on the US President Barack Obama's executive action on immigration reform issue.

WASHINGTON, November 22 (Sputnik) — A number of US Congressmen are considering filing a new lawsuit on the US President Barack Obama's executive action on immigration reform issue, senior fellow at the Heritage Foundation and former Department of Justice official John Malcolm has told Sputnik.

"I know at least a couple congressmen who are considering introducing a resolution allowing the House [of Representatives] to file a lawsuit…on the immigration issue, what the President has just done," Malcolm said Friday.

A new House lawsuit could either be filed separately or it could be added on to the existing lawsuit against Obama's Affordable Care Act introduced by House Speaker John Boehner on Friday, according to Malcolm.

Both lawsuits address a similar issue of harm that US president's actions cause Congress, but Malcolm believes that the lawsuit targeting the Affordable Care Act is "crisper and cleaner" than a lawsuit involving immigration.

"It is a murky question," Malcolm said referring to the legal complications of challenging Obama's planned action to provide some illegal immigrants with immunity from deportation.

On Thursday, Obama outlined how he will use his executive powers to modify US immigration law. The president's executive action is aimed at allowing illegal immigrants who have lived in the United States for over five years to register to stay in the country temporarily without being deported.

Republicans have expressed outrage over Obama acting unilaterally on immigration reform.
