Jamaica’s Sprinter Bolt Becomes 9-Time Olympic Champion

Jamaica’s sprinter Usain Bolt has become a 9-time Olympic champion, winning gold in men’s 4x100m relay at the Rio Games.

RIO DE JANEIRO (Sputnik) – Jamaica’s quartet, which includes Bolt, Yohan Blake, Asafa Powell and Nickel Ashmeade, finished in 37.27 seconds on Friday. The Japanese were second, winning silver with 37.60 seconds.

The United States finished third with 37.62 seconds, but was disqualified. Canada was promoted to bronze with 37.64 seconds.

The Friday gold is Bolt’s third at the 2016 Summer Olympic Games held in Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro.

On Thursday, Bolt took gold in men’s 200m race. Earlier in the Rio Games, the 29-year-old took gold in men’s 100m race.

Bolt was the first athlete to win consecutive Olympic 100m and 200m titles in 2008 and 2012. He is also known for his "triple triple" achievement (three gold medals at three consecutive Olympic Games). Bolt is an 11-time World Champion.
