Russian canoeist Ilia Shtokalov will be awarded a bronze medal at the Rio Olympics in men's canoe singles at 1,000 meters (3280 feet) due to the disqualification of the Moldovan canoeist Serghei Tarnovschi, the Russian Canoe Federation (VFGBK) said in a statement.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Thursday, canoe bronze medalist Tarnovschi has been suspended after failing a doping test.

"The corresponding changes have been made to the results. Now the medalists are Sebastian Brendel (Germany) — gold, Isaquias Queiroz dos Santos (Brazil) — silver, and Ilia Shtokalov (Russia) — bronze," the statement reads.

Thus, Russian canoeing team got its second bronze medal at the Rio Olympics.

The Summer Olympic Games are being held in Rio de Janeiro from August 5 until August 21.
