Six Russian Rowers, Two Coxwains Cleared by IOC to Compete in Rio

The IOC independent commission admitted several more Russian athletes, Russian Rowing Federation President Veniamin Bout said Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) independent commission admitted six Russian rowers and two coxwains to the Rio summer games, Russian Rowing Federation President Veniamin Bout said Thursday.

“We received official confirmation from the IOC independent commission, an official letter saying six rowers plus to coxwains have been admitted,” Bout told R-Sport by phone.

On July 26, the International Rowing Federation (FISA) allowed only six out of 28 Russian rowers. By Wednesday it became known that the 17 remaining athletes’ Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) appeal has been dismissed.
