MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) has allowed all three Russian trampoline athletes to participate in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, head coach of the Russian trampoline team Nikolai Makarov said Wednesday.
"Yesterday, [we] received a verbal confirmation regarding the admission from the international federation, we have no problems. We are flying to Rio on August 2," Makarov told R-Sport.
The decision comes amid a doping scandal surrounding the Russian national team and its participation in the 2016 Olympic Games. On July 24, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) decided against the blanket ban of all Russian athletes and said it was up to individual sports associations to decide whether to let Russian athletes compete.
Russia has been accused of running a state-sponsored doping program, which led to some athletes found guilty of abusing performance-enhancing substances being suspended from competitions.
