World Rowing Federation Advises to Disqualify Russian Quadruple Sculls

The World Rowing Federation advised to disqualify Russian men's quadruple sculls over an alleged use of doping.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The World Rowing Federation (FISA) on Friday published a statement advising to disqualify Russian men's quadruple sculls over an alleged doping violation.

"The World Rowing Federation, FISA, advises that the Russian men's quadruple sculls is to be disqualified due to a doping violation," the statement said.

The decision of the FISA was made following the revelation of doping use by Russian rower Sergei Fedorovtsev on May 17 and further validation of the analysis' results, the statement added.

According to the rowing federation, all the results of competitions with Fedorovtsev's participation following the date of the first registered doping use are disqualified, including the competition that allowed the Russian team to qualify for the upcoming Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

In December 2014, German ARD channel released a film titled "The Doping Secret: How Russia Creates Champions" on alleged doping abuse and corruption in Russian sports. The film was followed up by documentaries with further allegations.

Following the film release, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) launched an investigation into the allegations of doping abuse in Russian sports. In November 2015, WADA's Independent Commission issued a report accusing Russia of numerous breaches of global anti-doping regulations.
