MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Up to 67 Russian athletes will submit individual applications to participate in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio simultaneously lodging appeals with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to prove their innocence in the doping abuse allegations, Russian Sport Minister Vitaly Mutko said Saturday.

"Up to 67 athletes will submit individual applications to take part in the Olympic Games and simultaneously will appeal to the CAS to prove their cleanness," Mutko told Match TV broadcaster.

Russian Athletes Unlikely to Join Rio Olympics Judging by IOC Statement
On June 20, the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) upheld the suspension of the International Association of Athletics Federation's (ARAF) membership, virtually banning Russian athletes from the 2016 Rio Olympics. The ARAF said it would file a lawsuit against IAAF.

The following day, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at the summit in Lausanne, Switzerland, supported the IAAF's decision, but did not ban all Russian national team members from the participation in the 2016 Olympics, assuming that some Russian athletes will take part in the Games under the Russian flag. These athletes will be removed from disqualifications individually by the IAAF.
