"The IAAF has today published a set of guidelines for athletes seeking exceptional eligibility for International Competition under Competition Rule 22.1A," the IAAF said in a statement.
According the guideline, Russian athletes are to apply for participation in the Olympics before July 4, no later than two weeks before the deadline for the international competition expires on July 18.
On June 20, the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) upheld the suspension of the International Association of Athletics Federation's (ARAF) membership, virtually banning Russian athletes from the 2016 Rio Olympics. The ARAF said it would file a lawsuit against IAAF.
The following day, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at the summit in Lausanne, Switzerland, supported the IAAF's decision, but did not ban all Russian national team members from the participation in the 2016 Olympics, assuming that some Russian athletes will take part in the Games under the Russian flag. These athletes will be removed from disqualifications individually by the IAAF.
