Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko insisted on Monday that head coach Leonid Slutsky should rethink his offer to stand down after a painful exit from the UEFA Euro 2016.

TOULOUSE (Sputnik) — The Russian football team is expected back home on Tuesday. It finished in fourth spot in Group B with just one point after drawing with England and losing to Slovakia and Wales, prompting head coach Leonid Slutsky to suggest his replacement.

Asked if he had any objections to Slutsky’s holding the top coaching job both in the national team and in Russia’s CSKA football club, Mutko said "there will be no more combining."

The 45-year-old former goalkeeper has been head coach at CSKA Moscow since 2009. In 2015, he was appointed to train the national football team. He was allowed to keep both jobs.
