The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) hopes to receive the final results of research on meldonium by mid-June, agency’s head Craig Reedie said.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Meldonium was added to WADA’s list of banned substances from January 1.

In April, WADA said that less than one microgram of meldonium per milliliter in a doping test would be permissible in samples submitted before March 1, 2016.

"The leading researcher are the Cologne laboratory. We hope to have their results by hopefully mid-June. That will give us the excretion period. So we are perfectly happy we were right to say that it was performance-enhancing," Reedie said.

Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko is cooperating with WADA on doping allegations in the country, but bureaucracy is getting in the way of recovering the status of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA), according to the WADA chief.

"The Minister has, in the main, been cooperative. Some of the bureaucracy in Russia is slow, which slows down the efforts to get into a situation where RUSADA… could possibly become compliant again," Reedie told the insidethegames.biz portal.

According to Reedie, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has agreed to assist WADA in the issue of double-checking doping tests of athletes during 2014 Sochi Olympics.

Reedie's comments came amid the recent IOC request to WADA to retest doping samples of athletes who had taken part in the Beijing, London and Sochi Olympic Games.
