MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) plans to meet with the Russian authorities following its decision to declare the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) non-compliant with its regulations.
"We will conduct the necessary meetings with the Russian authorities in respect of the non-compliance status of RUSADA that tests athletes in all sports within Russia," WADA President, Sir Craig Reedie, said as quoted in the agency’s Wednesday release.
According to Reedie, a WADA expert team will be tasked with ensuring a continued doping testing in Russia.
"Any information brought forward to me as a result will allow me to make a considered decision on whether or not to extend the Independent Commission’s mandate," the WADA president said.
An independent investigative commission of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) issued a report last week accusing Russia of violating global anti-doping codes and recommending that the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) suspend Russia from international athletics, including the 2016 Olympic Games.
On Wednesday, WADA confirmed at a meeting in Colorado that the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) is non-compliant with its anti-doping regulations.
According to WADA, non-compliance with anti-doping regulations means that anti-doping organizations cannot conduct operations until they reinstall the quality of their anti-doping programs.
RUSADA had stated that it has the right to continue its activities in the event of being declared non-compliant by WADA. The anti-doping laboratory has also expressed willingness to cooperate with WADA on resolving any non-compliance issues.
