MOSCOW (Sputnik) — There is no evidence supporting recent claims of alleged doping use by Russian athletes, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Tuesday.
"If any accusations are voiced, they must be supported by some kind of evidence. Until any evidence is presented, it is difficult to accept any accusations, they are quite baseless," Peskov told reporters.
On Monday, a WADA commission issued a report accusing Russia of numerous violations of global anti-doping codes and recommended the country be banned from international athletics for an undetermined period.
According to WADA, Vitaly Mutko, Russia’s sports minister, was aware of numerous manipulations of doping tests, and that the Russian Federal Security Service has been complicit in the use of doping by Russian athletes.
Mutko has denied these accusations and said that athlete doping is a global problem, and the isolation of one country will change nothing.
