FIFA Ex-Vice President Charged With Corruption Leaves Jail - Reports

Former FIFA Vice President Jack Warner has left jail in an ambulance, following his arrest on corruption charges, media reported Friday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Jack Warner was among 14 world soccer figures, including high-ranking FIFA officials, indicted on Wednesday by the US Department of Justice with racketeering and money laundering.

According to The Mirror, the 72-year-old Warner, who is now a special adviser to the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation, has left the jail using a medical complaint of exhaustion.

Authorities of Trinidad and Tobago issued on Wednesday a warrant for the arrest of Warner, who, protesting his innocence, surrendered to police Thursday.

According to media reports, Warner was released on $2.5 million bail, pending a hearing on extradition to the United States.

The 14 suspects indicted by the US Department of Justice are accused of receiving bribes totaling $150 million, in a corruption scheme that ran for some 24 years. Seven of the defendants were arrested in Zurich, Switzerland just days ahead of FIFA's Friday presidential elections.
