Russian ice hockey team on Friday won the preliminary round match at the World Championship against Norway 6-2.

OSTRAVA (Sputnik) — Russia, with 3 points, currently shares the first place in group B with the United States.

Vadim Shipachyov, Artem Anisimov, Denis Zaripov, Viktor Tikhonov, Maxim Chudinov and Artemiy Panarin scored for Russia.

Two of the Norway’s goals were both scored by Patrick Thoresen.

In the preliminary round, sixteen national teams are divided into two groups. After the preliminary round, the best four teams from each group, based on the number of points awarded, will advance to the quarterfinals.

The Russian team will play its next match against Slovenia on May 3.

The 2015 ice hockey World Championship is being held from May 1 to May 17, 2015 in the Czech Republic.
