MOSCOW, November 24 (Sputnik) — Companies providing security services, or so-called stewarding are key to ensuring safety and security during the 2018 World Cup in Russia, although police and military in the country are very respectable, International Center for Sport Security (ICSS) director general Helmut Spahn said in an interview with Sputnik.
"If the situation goes beyond control, police on the spot should be able to help. But there should not be an excessive number of policemen in the stadium, or around it," he added.
Spahn said that the organization of the 2008 UEFA Champions League final held in the Russian capital was perfect, adding that that he expects "in 2018 everything will also go well."
Russia was awarded the right to host the 2018 FIFA World Cup on December 2, 2010. The football championship will be hosted by 11 Russian cities, namely Moscow, Ekaterinburg, Kaliningrad, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov-on-Don, Samara, Saransk, Sochi, St. Petersburg and Volgograd.
