MOSCOW, November 7 (R-Sport) - Zenit St. Petersburg midfielder Miguel Danny said his team were sorely lacking passion in the dour 1-0 defeat to Anderlecht.

Tuesday's Champions League defeat left Luciano Spalletti's men with an uphill battle to make the knockout stages.

Portuguese playmaker Danny put the performance down to a lack of spirit in the side.

“I’m very disappointed,” said Danny to the club’s official website. “We just need to be more emotional, we need to get satisfaction from football.”

Second-half substitute Danny made his return to European football on Tuesday after eight months out with a torn knee ligament.

“It was great, I was waiting for this moment, but now I’m more upset because of the defeat,” he said. “Now I need to work and train because I want to play more and more.”

The Russian champions sit bottom of Group C with just three points after four matches, two points behind second-placed AC Milan.

Malaga lead the group with 10 points. Anderlecht are third on four points.

“Nevertheless, we have the chance to progress. We just need to play better and rescue our place in the Champions League.”

Zenit next play Milan on November 21.
