Metallurg Magnitogorsk center Denis Platonov has been suspended for two games after pushing a referee, the KHL said Thursday.
The infraction took place in the 52nd minute of the 4-3 overtime defeat to Donbass Donetsk on Wednesday.
“After a bit of conflict at the [Donbass] net Metallurg captain Denis Platonov pushed the line referee Yuri Ivanov in a fit of emotion, for which he was punished with a game penalty,” KHL said in a statement.
According to the KHL regulations, making physical contact with a referee results in a mandatory two-game disqualification and an additional five-game ban may be imposed depending on its severity.
Another two-game ban was imposed on Dynamo Riga defenseman Mathieu Carle on Tuesday, who had committed a similar infraction in the 5-2 defeat to Metallurg Magnitogorsk on Monday.
