The Russian Premier League will see how goal-line technology performs in other countries before deciding whether to adopt it, the head of the league Sergei Cheban said Wednesday.

The International Football Association Board, which sets the laws of the game, approved two goal-line technology systems for use in competition Tuesday, and they are expected to be trialed at December’s Club World Cup in Japan.

“We won’t be introducing anything before the end of this championship,” Cheban said, adding that his strategy had the backing of Russian refereeing head Roberto Rosetti.

“First you have to test the system in tournaments. Rosetti’s recommended that too.”

The GoalRef and Hawk-Eye system have been approved for use.

GoalRef relies on magnetic fields around the goal and sensors in the ball, while Hawk-Eye uses several high-speed cameras, and is already used to resolve disputed calls in cricket and tennis.
