After winning her first tournament of the year, former world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki is targeting the top prize at the upcoming Kremlin Cup in Moscow, she said Monday.

After winning her first tournament of the year, former world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki is targeting the top prize at the upcoming Kremlin Cup in Moscow, she said Monday.

Wozniacki ended last year as No. 1 but has slipped to 11th after disappointing performances at several tournaments and first-round exits at Wimbledon and the U.S. Open.

The Dane ended a 13-month wait for a title when she beat Kaia Kanepi to win the Seoul Open last month, and said Monday her recent success could be the catalyst for further success.

“My goal is victory at this tournament,” Wozniacki said on the Kremlin Cup website.

“Recently I’ve been competing well. I hope I can continue in the same spirit.”

A win at the $740,000 Kremlin Cup would open the door for a return to the top 10, she said.

“Even though it’s not my best year, I still think that 11th in the world rankings is not too bad a result. I’ll be hoping for a good showing at the tournament in Moscow, then I’ll be able to return to the top 10.”

Wozniacki last played at the China Open, losing to Angelique Kerber in the third round last week.

The Kremlin Cup main draw action starts October 15.
