Dynamo Moscow forward Alex Ovechkin got a goal and an assist in a 5-1 drubbing of Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk for his team's third-straight KHL win.
The Washington Capitals star has two goals and three assists in five games since signing a lockout contract last month, propelling the Muscovites to fourth in the Western Conference.
Neftekhimik is the team that signed Edmonton Oilers' No. 1 draft pick Nail Yakupov for the lockout, but the 18-year-old prodigy was left out of the team against Dynamo despite being cleared to play following a brief suspension over an illegal transfer.
Yakupov watched from the stands Monday as Ovechkin ripped a shot from the blue line to give Dynamo a 4-0 lead in the middle of the third period on powerplay.
Maxim Berezin pulled one back for the visitors six minutes later and Konstantin Volkov completed the thrashing after accepting a feed from Filip Novak.
Elsewhere, SKA St. Petersburg stunned visiting two-time champion Ak Bars Kazan 5-2, with St. Louis Blues wing Vladimir Tarasenko beating Ak Bars and Russia goaltender Konstantin Barulin twice in the space of two minutes in the second period.
SKA is sixth in the West with three consecutive victories, while Ak Bars is third in the East.
Andrei Taratukhin hit the winning goal as last season's losing Gagarin Cup finalists Avangard Omsk beat Sibir Novosibirsk 2-1 in overtime.
A third-straight victory after a wretched run of five defeats leaves Avangard one place below the playoff zone on ninth in the East, while Sibir is second in the same conference.
CSKA Moscow recorded a road victory over Metallurg Magnitogorsk as Igor Radulov scored the winning penalty shot after overtime ended in a 1-1 draw.
Radulov’s brother Alexander, formerly of the Nashville Predators, and Detroit Red Wings center Pavel Datsyuk failed to make their mark on the game for CSKA, while Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin was largely anonymous on the other side.
Metallurg Magnitogorsk is fifth in the East, while CSKA is third in the West with four victories in five games.
Eastern Conference leader Traktor Chelyabinsk, meanwhile, recorded its fifth victory in a row with last year's regular season champion beating visitor Slovan Bratislava 3-1.
The loss leaves newcomer Slovan seventh in the West.
Elsewhere, Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk managed to snap a six-match losing streak with a 4-3 home victory over fellow Siberians Metallurg Novokuznetsk.
Yugra had to battle back from 1-0 down in the first period and 3-2 down in the third, with Anton Bout scoring the winner 43 seconds from the horn.
Metallurg Novokuznetsk is eight and Yugra is second from bottom on 11th in the Eastern Conference.
Lev Prague inflicted a fifth consecutive defeat on Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg as the recently relocated team recorded a 5-3 away victory, with Erik Christensen scoring twice for Lev.
Lev is top of the table in the West with one more point and two more games played than runner-up Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, while Avtomobilist is the bottom team in the East.
In other games, Salavat Yulaev Ufa beat Dynamo Riga in overtime 3-2 to put an end to its three-game losing streak; and Barys Astana scored once in each period for a 3-1 home victory over Amur Khabarovsk.
Barys is sixth and Amur is tenth in the Eastern Conference.
