Ex-Chelsea player Dan Petrescu said Saturday that fans have the right to criticize his Dynamo Moscow team’s poor form, in an apparent effort to defuse mounting tension.

The team, one of Russia’s most famous, was last in the Premier League until Saturday’s 3-2 win over Amkar Perm lifted them out of the relegation zone, and Dynamo are now 14th of 16 teams.

Video emerged Saturday showing fans haranguing and cursing a crowd of players at Dynamo’s training base and one supporter threatening violence against them.

It was not immediately clear when the footage was filmed.

“The fans are always right. They pay money for this and they can express their discontent if their team plays badly,” Petrescu said.

“It’s fine to listen to fans’ opinions. We thank them for their support, without them it’s very hard to get a win.”

Dynamo have two wins in nine league games this season, losing all the others, and their Europa League campaign ended with defeat to VfB Stuttgart in the playoffs last month.
