NHL forwards Ruslan Fedotenko of the Philadelphia Flyers and Alexei Ponikarovsky of the Winnipeg Jets have agreed to sign for KHL newcomer Donbass Donetsk, the Ukrainian team's general manager Sergei Shakurov said Sunday.
Both players are Ukrainian and entitled to ink contracts with Donbass after the NHL lockout was declared on Saturday.
Fedotenko, 33, spent two seasons at the Flyers before moving to the Tampa Bay Lightning, where he won his first Stanley Cup, scoring the championship-winning goal in the 2004 finals.
Five years later, the left wing lifted his second Stanley Cup with the Pittsburgh Penguins and then left for the New York Rangers before returning to Philadelphia this summer.
The 32-year-old Ponikarovsky moved to the Toronto Maple Leafs from Dynamo Moscow in 2000 and spent 10 seasons in the Canadians save a quick stint with the Russian team Khimik during the 2004/05 lockout.
Ponikarovsky played for the Stanley Cup finalist New Jersey Devils last year before signing for the Winnipeg Jets in July.
