A late equalizer from striker Alexei Sapogov gave 10-man FC Volga a 1-1 draw against FC Rostov in the Russian Premier League on Saturday.

Volga moved up one position from the bottom with four points after seven rounds, while Rostov stand 13th with six points.

The hosts snatched a point despite playing the last hour with 10 men after Andrei Buyvolov was dismissed for a last-man tackle on Alexandru Gatcan on 29 minutes.

Rostov had already opened the scoring by then, with Bosnian midfielder Dragan Blatnjak shooting between Volga goalkeeper Ilya Abaev's legs nine minutes in.

Blatnjak then failed to double the lead from the penalty spot on the half hour, Abaev diving to his left to palm the shot away.

Volga's equalizer came against the run of play on 87 minutes, as Sapogov found space in the Rostov box and hammered the ball into the far corner after a Shamil Asildarov free kick from the left.

Earlier Saturday Terek Grozny continued their astonishing start with a 2-1 away win over 10-man Rubin Kazan thanks to a late winner from Magomed Mitrishev.

In Friday's only game, Zenit secured a 3-0 away victory against newly promoted Mordovia Saransk with striker Alexander Kerzhakov bagging a brace.

Then Sunday, Lokomotiv Moscow clash with Spartak in the game of the day, while FC Krasnodar meet CSKA.
