Australia’s Mathew Belcher and Malcolm Page gave their country gold in the men’s 470 sailing Friday after holding off a challenge from a British crew in the medal race.

Belcher and Page came second in the medal race, giving them enough of an advantage to be sure of gold overall, while British silver medalists Luke Patience and Stuart Bithell were fourth.

Page was already an Olympic gold medalist after winning the same event with Nathan Wilmot in 2008.

The result gave Britain its second silver medal in the 470 class in successive Olympics after Nick Rogers and Joe Glanfield came second in Beijing four years ago.

Bronze went to Argentina’s Lucas Calabrese and Juan de la Fuente, who finished third in the medal race but were out of contention for the gold medal after falling off the pace in the first 10 races.
