Russia's No. 1 women's singles player Anastasia Prokopenko crashed out of the Olympic badminton tournament on Tuesday with a narrow defeat to Danish fifth seed Tine Baun.
Prokopenko took the first set but eventually succumbed 19-21, 21-15, 21-16 to finish second in Group G.
The event had started well for the 24-year-old with a straight-sets thumping of Poland's Kamila Augustyn.
Only the top player in the 16 groups of three athletes qualifies for the next round.
The Chinese trio of world No. 1 Wang Yihan, Wang Xin, and Li Xuerui top the seeds.
