Saturday's season-opening Russian Super Cup match between league champions Zenit St. Petersburg and cup winners Rubin Kazan is to begin with a minute's silence for the 171 people who died in floods in southern Russia.

Flash floods devastated more than 7,000 homes in the Krasnodar province last Saturday, leaving thousands displaced and in need of emergency supplies.

Various sporting and entertainment events were canceled and a national day of mourning declared.

Saturday's match in the central city of Samara takes place a week before the first round of matches in the Russian Premier League.

"Before the game will be a moment of silence to commemorate of victims of floods in Kuban," Zenit said on their Twitter account.

Zenit took their second-consecutive title with three matches to go in April.

Rubin beat Dynamo Moscow 1-0 in the cup final on Roman Eremenko's strike in May.
