Spartak Moscow general director Valery Karpin is surprised by Russia coach Dick Advocaat's decision to drop Spartak forward Artem Dzyuba from his Euro 2012 squad.
The Dutchman announced the final 23-man squad after Friday's 1-1 draw against Uruguay in a Euro 2012 warm-up.
A defensive injury crisis meant Advocaat dropped Dzyuba and Lokomotiv Moscow midfielder Magomed Ozdoev to make room for CSKA Moscow right-back Kirill Nababkin.
"I'm not the coach, it for[Advocaat] to decide," Karpin said. "It was he who saw Dzyuba at the training camp, so it is hard to say anything about it from the outside."
"Taking the results of the championship of this year, I consider that Dzyuba deserved [to make the squad]. To be honest, I didn't expect such a decision."
Dzyuba, 23, has 12 goals in his 46 Spartak appearances this season.
He has one cap for Russia, playing 45 minutes against Greece in November, as a replacement for the injured Pavel Pogrebnyak.
Dzyuba spent Friday's match against Uruguay on the bench.
Russia will play Lithuania and Italy in two further warm-up games, both in Switzerland, before traveling to Poland for their Euro 2012 group stage matches.
Russia start their campaign June 8 against the Czech Republic in Wroclaw before traveling to Warsaw to face co-host Poland on June 12 and Greece four days later.
