On Wednesday, a man carrying 100 grams of heroin inside a condom that he was wearing was detained by authorities at the Chennai International Airport.

The Central Industrial Security Force in India arrested the man, who reportedly was planning on smuggling the heroin to Colombo, Sri Lanka. The case was handed over to customs and the man is likely to face criminal charges.

"While checking, they found that the pelvic area was unusually large. When they checked, they found that he had concealed the heroin inside a condom he was wearing. It was held by a rubber hand," an official said, according to a Times of India report.

The unidentified man worked as a storekeeper at an engineering college in Chennai, according to the officials.

Security officials at airports in India have been recently criticized for failing to stop smuggling attempts. Last month, customs agents discovered that 29 people were hiding gold in their rectums on two flights that landed at Madurai International Airport in Tamil Nadu.

After crude oil, gold is India's second-largest import, with hefty customs fees that many try to avoid through smuggling.

In September, officials at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh arrested a passenger who arrived from Dubai concealing 932 grams of gold in his pant pockets and socks. The man eventually admitted to smuggling gold and was arrested.
