The contest is run by Rossiya Segodnya under the auspices of the Russian Federation Commission for UNESCO. Every user can select their favorite photograph or photo series done by young photographers included in the shortlist. The winner of the online voting will be announced on 20th of July 2016 at the contest website. The winner will be awarded with the diploma at the ceremony in Moscow on 30th of August 2016.
"It is the first time we have decided to give the opportunity to the Internet users to play the role of the jury and evaluate the work of young photojournalists. Meanwhile the finalists will get to know what the Internet audience think of them. This year photographers from 71 countries and from all 5 continents have wrestled for the right to become the best one. The jury chose 38 photographers from 13 countries for the shortlist. Let's see how the internet users will vote", as noted by the Alexander Shtol, director of Rossiya Segodnya’s Photo Information Directorate.
The winners will be announced by professional jury on August 4, 2016. The award ceremony, Grand Prix announcement and the opening ceremony of the related exhibition will take place in Moscow on August 30, 2016. Traditionally, the winning entries are exhibited in Russia and abroad before the end of the year.
The Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest aims to promote young photographers and attract public attention to photojournalism and its mission. It is Russia’s only platform to discover new photojournalists and develop high standards for documentary photography in Russia and the world. In 2016, about 6000 entries by young photojournalists from 71 countries, including Russia, have been submitted to the Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest
The most popular categories according to the number of entries are “My Country”, “Portraits: A Hero of Our Time” and “World Colors. Harmony of Life”. The awards ceremony and accompanying exhibition will take place in Moscow on August 2016.
The contest covers five continents, stretching from Europe and North and South America to Africa, Australia, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. Russian participants are drawn from all corners of the country – from Kaliningrad, Moscow and St. Petersburg to Vladivostok and Yalta.
