MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Migliore’s predecessor Ivan Jurkovic was named the Vatican’s permanent representative at UN bodies in Geneva and the World Trade Organization (NATO) in February.

"Pope Francis has appointed apostolic nuncio to the Russian Federation HE Msgr. Celestino Migliore, Titular Archbishop of Canosa, apostolic nuncio to Poland," the bulletin said.

Migliore, 64, is seen as a veteran Vatican diplomat, who held difficult negotiations with countries that do not have formal relations with the Vatican, including China, Vietnam and North Korea.

He visited Russia and held talks with the Foreign Ministry's officials after Catholic Bishop Jerzy Mazur was expelled from Russia with several priests.
