PARIS (Sputnik) — Russia will submit a resolution on the assistance to the Syrian authorities in restoration of the ancient city of Palmyra to UNESCO in the next few days, a source in the Russian delegation to the 199 session of the UNESCO Executive Board told RIA Novosti on Monday.
"In the coming days, Russia will introduce a resolution on the situation in Palmyra to the UNESCO Executive Board," the source said, adding that the draft was named "Assistance to SAR [Syrian Arab Republic] in Restoration of the World Heritage Site 'Archaeological Site of Palmyra.'"
After the motion, the document has to be included in the agenda of the Executive Board within 48 hours, the source added.
"Discussion of the resolution is likely to be held in Paris next week," the source said.
The 199th session started in Paris earlier in the day and will be held until April 15.
In late March, the Syrian army supported by militia and the Russian Aerospace Forces recaptured the historic city, which had been under control of Daesh since May 2015.
