The fire at an oil depot near the Ukrainian capital has been totally extinguished, Nikolai Chechetkin, the head of the Ukrainian State Emergencies Service said Friday.

KIEV (Sputnik) — He added that until the fuel at the depot is pumped out, a threat will remain.

"Fire and rescue units are in control of 100 percent of the location. There is no threat of the fire spreading. There are no open fire hotspots," Chechetkin said at a Cabinet meeting, as cited by ICTV channel Ukraine.

On Monday, fire first broke out at the BRSM-Nafta oil depot located near Kiev. Since then, until now, the oil depot has been on fire. The situation worsened after a powerful explosion occurred at the site on Tuesday. The blaze affected 17 tanks, each containing around 900 cubic meters of fuel.
