MOSCOW, August 11 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian Communist Party (KPRF) is to hold a "people's referendum" on seven key issues of Russia's development and expects 15-20 million people to cast their votes, KPRF leader Gennady Zyuganov said Thursday.

The Russian Central Election Commission and Supreme Court had banned an official nationwide referendum, so the party decided to hold a "people's referendum" at its regional centers.

Ballot boxes will be also set up in public places, together with mobile polling stations.

The Communist Party wants to set the minimum wage at the subsistence level or higher, to cancel the law on the replacement of social benefits in-kind with cash payments, to adopt a law on the responsibility of the president, government, and heads of federation members for a decrease of living standards, etc.

"All branches of the party are getting ready for the people's referendum," Zyuganov said. "We have already conducted test polls on the key referendum issues. People are very interested and active."

He also said that the referendum would be held from September 17, 2005 till March 25, 2006 in all Russian regions.
