MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia is the leader in several branches of the artificial intelligence technology, the founder of the international software company ABBYY, David Yang, told Sputnik on Tuesday.

"Russia is leading in the fields of image processing and semantics," Yang said, adding that there are several companies in Russia working on image recognition, lexical and semantic analysis.

The ABBYY company was founded in 1989 in Moscow. It produces software for computers and mobile devices in the fields of optical character recognition, document capture and language.

In May, a subsidiary of Russia's state technology corporation Rostec, the United Instrument Manufacturing Corporation, launched a new artificial intelligence research project. The project involves more than 30 Russian companies and research organizations.
