ROME, January 1 (Sputnik) — At least 102 individuals have been injured while setting off fireworks and firecrackers during New Year’s Eve celebrations in Italy, La Repubblica reported Thursday.
According to the newspaper, the biggest number of cases was registered in the southern region of Campania, where 71 individuals had to seek medical assistance for various kinds of injuries. In Naples and its suburbs alone, 48 people including a 10-year-old child have been injured while setting off fireworks.
The newspaper stresses that these are only the preliminary figures.
In Italy hundreds of fireworks-related injuries are being registered at New Year's Eve celebrations each year. According to official information, last year this figure stood at 350 and in 2013 – at 361 cases.
