MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet with members of the Russian Olympic team including those who are prohibited to participate in the Summer Olympic Games in Rio, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Wednesday.

"The president will meet with the members of the Russian Olympic team in the Kremlin's St. Alexander Hall. The team members who go to Rio, as well as those who will not go to Rio, but who we still deem members of our team, will attend this meeting," Peskov told reporters.

Earlier in July, an independent World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) commission led by Canadian law professor Richard McLaren presented a report based on the investigation results, in which Russia was accused of running a state-wide doping program, prompting the International Olympic Committee to consider a blanket ban on the entire Russian team.

On July 24, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) decided against imposing a blanket ban on all Russian athletes and said it was up to individual sports associations to decide whether to let Russian athletes compete.
